How It Works: Isotretinoin acts on all acne-causing pathways simultaneously — reducing sebaceous gland activity and sebum secretion, preventing follicular hyperkeratinization, eliminating C. acnes overgrowth, and suppressing the inflammatory cascade responsible for nodules and cysts.
Common Uses: Severe nodular acne, cystic acne, acne conglobata, and treatment-resistant acne in patients who have completed adequate trials of antibiotics and topical therapies without sufficient improvement.
Administration: Take with food once or twice daily as prescribed. Weight-based cumulative dosing determines total treatment length. Must not be taken during pregnancy — dual contraception is required for all patients of childbearing potential.
