How It Works: Gemcitabine is incorporated into replicating DNA, inhibiting DNA polymerase and ribonucleotide reductase, and causing masked chain termination — preventing cancer cells from completing DNA synthesis.
Common Uses: Pancreatic cancer (first-line), non-small cell lung cancer (with cisplatin/carboplatin), bladder cancer (GemCis regimen), and metastatic breast cancer after anthracycline therapy.
Administration: Administered by IV infusion over 30 minutes in a clinical setting, typically weekly in 3-week or 4-week cycles. Dose based on body surface area.
