How It Works: Ivermectin binds to glutamate-gated chloride channels in the peripheral nervous system of parasites, causing sustained channel opening, neuromuscular paralysis, and elimination of scabies mites, nematodes, and other ectoparasites.
Common Uses: Sarcoptic scabies (including crusted/Norwegian scabies), strongyloidiasis, onchocerciasis, head lice, and lymphatic filariasis.
Administration: Take on an empty stomach as a single weight-based oral dose. A second dose after 2 weeks is typically recommended for scabies to address the egg-to-mite developmental cycle.
